Any of you folks in Sandy's path?
Looks like we're going to get pounded here in MA tomorrow.

It's supposed to come directly over our heads in Saylorsburg, PA.
And last year, it was Irene.
This is becoming an annual event...and still some say climate change is bogus...

(awww geez, did I originally post this in Emulators? I meant to stick it in the random section. ) Well, if I might play Devil's Advocate here: as someone who's lived in the NE area for most of his life, it seems to me that we get a hurricane that tracks up here basically once every couple years. Having two hurricanes in two years is unusual, but I wouldn't categorize it as being suspiciously so. Looks like the storm is actually going to go through NY and make an end run around Massachusetts entirely- sucks to be Delaware and Jersey, though. I mean, like, more than usual. - HC

We had an earlier model of the MittBot as governor. To this day, the current model is attempting to live down that one's scandalous reputation of helping uninsured sick people. Totally voting Warren. You know, Scott Brown didn't even bother me that much until this campaign. - HC

So things weren't hat bad here in MA- a lot of wind and rain, but not much else. There were some trees down in the neighborhood, but the power stayed on and my place is fine. How're things in PA?

We just got power back about 3 hours ago. We were out for 24 hours, almost to the minute.
We lost a couple of shingles off the roof. That's it. We got off light.
Some folks, not too far away from us, got it a lot worse, including one man, 40 miles away, who had a tree fall onto his house and was killed.
So we got off very very light.
A couple hundred dollars and a ladder will fix what we had happen.

My point of bringing that guy up was just to illustrate how lucky WE were, and how light WE got off....it could just as easily have been us.

It's really good to hear that both of you are okay in the wake of the disastrous storm. Although I was out of its path, I have a lot of relatives in the Northeast (particularly New York City), and I still have yet to hear from them. We must send our prayers to those in need.

The aftermath of Sandy is to see human nature and not the prettier part of it...
Today, I saw two pickup trucks with Connecticut license plates here in PA...filling up each over 20 5-gallon cans of gas...with the stated intent of going back to Connecticut and New York with them...and sell the gas for 15-20 bucks a gallon to people up there who have no gas.
Just disgusting.
Not that I wanna see anyone get hurt...but it is seeing something like that...which makes you wish someone would flick a lit cigarette at them on the highway.
Would be sorta nice to see their ill-gotten gains go up in flames.

Ugh. I despise opportunism in all its forms.
Since the storm left a trail of destruction across the northeastern USA, I have made donations to the American Red Cross (through PayPal) and Feeding America (through Pizza Hut, one of my favorite places to grab lunch before work), and I strongly urge you all to do the same.

I agree. And if you can't donate money, donate time, if you can. A lot of people are hurting. A lot of people need help. It is despicable that some are using this disaster to make financial gain.
