I have discovered that ONE monster...does not recruit automatically when the Easter Egg Trick is in play.
The Lionex would not come to me.
I had room for him in the wagon, the Eater Egg WAS applied correctly...every hit was still a critical, as it should have been...several monsters before him all came on first try, including a Metal Babble.
But the Lionex?? Nope.
I was fighting three Lionexes, too...so there was no way it was anything to do with it being the last one left alive, because it had to be. I even save-stated a three Lionex battle, and thru numerous attempts...could not recruit the Lionex.
Of course, I also failed in a later try without the Easter Egg. And the save-state.
But I know the Lionex WILL recruit, he's just damn hard. But the Easter Egg does not make him come to you.

I'm not faMiliar win this trick- what version(s) of the game does it work on? How do you do it? - HC This works on the DeJap Translation of the original DQ5, on the super Famicom...or SNES. This game was never released in the United states...or in English. DeJap translated the game and it can be downloaded as a ROM which you can then play on an emulator. The way the trick works is this: In your main character's inventory, you have the following items, in this order, all unequipped...and nothing else: Cypress Stick Sharpened Bone Hat of Happiness Club Saw Blade Cloak of Evolution What this causes is this: Every hit will be a critical. Every monster that can recruit with you...will do so. And the one exception to this is that the Lionex does not seem to recruit as it ought to.

Interesting- never heard of that. I'll have to keep it in mind if I ever play through the SNES DQ5. - HC

While we're talking about the game, what are the differences between the versions (save the obvious visual update/retranslation and the addition of the third bride and related items)? IIRC they, like, doubled the number of recruitable monsters in the DS version- is that true?

Magic Toadstools weren't recruitable in the original? That's a shame; those dudes were super useful in the DS version.
Sweet Breath FTW!
