Just curious.
Anyone whose played the first Final Fantasy will know the classes.
So, which classes are your favorite?
Mine are Red Mage/Red Wizard and Fighter/Knight.

To that I would add a Ninja.
I forget what he starts out as...but after class change, he is a Ninja...oh...duh, never mind, he starts as a Black Belt.
Personally, my party would consist of the following...of which you can pick only four...
2 fighters 1 Red Mage 1 White Mage 1 Black Mage 1 Black Belt
SO...depending on what I wanted from the game I was playing, that is my start point.
I'd guess I would normally take something like 1 Fighter 1 Black Belt 1 Red Mage 1 Black Mage
I'd forgo the White Mage since the Red can do some decent Healing...and CHAOS is really needing the powerful Black Magic at the end.

I've only plays the original FF through once, and my choice of party then was Fighter/Theif/Red Mage/White Mage. It worked okay, but if I do it again I'll consider swapping out the first two for a pair of Fighters or Black Belts.
A while back I played through the excellent visual update/rebalancing hack Final Fantasy ++. In that hack, I used a Fighter/Fighter/White Mage/Black Mage setup, which worked pretty well- black magic was much more useful in that hack than the standard game, and Red Maes were removed in favor of a class that functioned differently.

Thief goes to Ninja.
Monk goes to Black Belt.
My normal party is Fighter/Thief or Monk/Red Mage/White Mage. Sometimes I switch out the Red Mage for a Black Mage.
Alternatively, played a new version of the game with a party consisting entirely of Red Mages. It's surprisingly more challenging at first.

I do not recall a Monk in the ORIGINAL FF. Yeah, a game with all Red Mages might be fun. UPDATE: Final Fantasy 1, the NES version, the total original...has the following classes at startup: Fighter Thief Black Belt Red Mage White Mage Black Mage For me, my picks would be Player 1: Fighter Player 2: Black Belt or Thief (probably Black Belt) Player 3: Red Mage or White Mage (probably Red Mage) Player 4: Black Mage I was right, there is no Monk. I am not sure, if not Ninja...what the Black Belt becomes after class-up. The mages all become Wizards. The fighter becomes a Knight Not sure what the Thief becomes, either.

Black Belt becomes Karate Master, I think. They don't gain new equipment, armor, or spells, IIRC, but their stats when they're unequipped get better.

Ah, FF1. One of my all-time favorite RPGs! My ideal FF1 party is Fighter, Thief, Red Mage, and White Mage.
Ninja is Thief's upgraded class. In the NES version, Ninja can equip every weapon (except for Wizard Staff and Excalibur) and over half of the armor in the game, and it can learn every Black Magic spell from Levels 1 through 4. Quite an improvement over the Thief, wouldn't you say?
In the GBA version of FF1 (my personal favorite version), the Knight, Ninja, and Red Wizard all get supremely powerful weapons exclusive to their classes after defeating the game's three most formidable optional bosses. White Wizard doesn't get much in the way of new weapons, but that's what the Masamune is for.
I was never a Black Mage/Wizard fan, because most bosses are resistant to offensive magic, and in the second half of the game (and the bonus dungeons in the GBA version), you can find a lot of equipment (mostly in weapon form) that emulates the effects of mid-grade attack spells. Besides, the hardier Red Mage/Wizard can already use almost all of Black Mage/Wizard's most desirable spells, including Haste (FAST).

I never finished the GBA version of FF1. Those optional bosses are in caverns some 40 levels deep!! I just kinda lost patience with caverns that huge that you could never save like, halfway thru or something, you know?
Unless I missed something....some way to save in the middle?

Unfortunately no (unless you're using an emulator, like I do, even though I own the cart). And it's only the wind dungeon that's 40 floors. The earth dungeon has 5 floors, the fire dungeon has 10, and the water dungeon has 20.

That's right. And that is the one I just gave up on. The 40-floor wind dungeon.
And I play on emulators too....even though I, also, own the legit carts.
I just find flashcarts easier and more convenient, and I don't care if Ninty likes it or not.
Ninty went halfway there with the DS Store...but they should have immediately released all existing titles to the DS Store. And all new releases.
People would rather have them on the machine than deal with itty bitty carts, changing them out and so on....taking the risk of losing the carts, etc.
No, you just have an Acekard which STAYS IN THE MACHINE and that's it. You play whatever game you want...and never have to change or carry around itty bitty carts, and chance losing them.
Thought of one other advantage to having them on the machine...never have to worry about your cart losing contact in the middle of a game, freezing you up - this even happens with Acekards sometimes. Never happens with a DS Store game!
If Ninty would release the right titles on the DS Store, I'd never even need an Acekard....except for, of course, emulating all those Atari games and stuff like I do, lol

Umm... since you have a whole bunch of unused Dragon Quest subforums, can we get some subforums for Final Fantasy 4 - 9? Maybe give us a Chrono Trigger and Treasure of the Rudra too. I'd ask for more, but let's start with that.

Absolutely I can add those sub-forums, so long as they are going to be used.
I already HAVE a chrono Trigger Board...I had it hidden because there were no posts in it...and it made it look bad, like the forum was not active.
i'll be glad to unhide it, so long as it is going to get posted in!
UPDATE: the Boards have been added, enjoy them! I hope you notice that I do not limit boards or discussions merely to my own tastes. All are welcome here to discuss any RPG's they want...so long as those Boards get posted in, I am happy to add them for any game you may want.
