Completion??

Because this game is virtually endless...I am curious as to what some people believe is "complete" on this game...or how far have you played before calling it "done?"

In my case I am at 1300 hours and still not "done."

I need 100% on all lists, and a minimum of 400 Accolades before I consider it "done." I already have all 184 quests done.

Some would say beating Corvus makes it "done" and that is true for the main story.

But I am curious if others here have played...or are playing...at what point do you consider this game "complete?"

I had thought about trying to complete all the 'extra' story missions post-game, but calculating the number of flurry feathers required to make a single Agate of Evolution convinced me otherwise.

It only takes twelve flurry feathers!!
Flurry Feathers are easy to obtain...read on!!

In fact, it takes a total of 103 Raw Ingredients to make one Agate of Evolution. It sounds daunting, but it really isn't...but you have to put some time in. The below breakdown should help you to alchemize Agates...and know exactly what items you need!!


An Agate needs 2 Sainted Soma, 2 Ethereal Stone, and a Chronocrystal.
Sainted Soma (2) needs Lucida Shard (4) Sage's Elixir (4) and Astral Plume (4)

Lucida Shard (4) needs 12 Brighten Rocks and 12 Evencloths.
Sage's Elixir (4) needs 4 Magic Water, 4 Royal soil, and 12 Nectar.
Astral Plume (4) needs 12 Flurry Feather, 8 Fresh Water, and 4 Angel Bells.

Ethereal Stone (2) needs 2 Enchanted Stone, 2 Perfect Panacea, and 4 Narspicious

Enchanted Stone (2) needs 4 Thunderball, 4 Ice Crystal and 2 Mystifying Mixture.

Mystifying Mixture (2) needs 2 Belle Cap 2 Manky Mud and 6 Cowpat.

Perfect Panacea (2) needs 2 Panacea, 2 Angel Bell and 2 Wakerobin

Panacea (2) needs 2 Special Medicine, 2 Superior Medicine and 2 Moonwort Bulb

Special Medicine (2) needs 4 Strong Medicine.


Final Raw Material List and How To Get Them
6 Angel Bells - purchase in Bloomingdale.
2 Belle Cap - These Spawn all over the place!
12 Brighten Rock - Steal from Cosmic Chimaera in Earth Grottos.
1 Chronocrystal - Purchase from the old man in the cave.
6 Cowpat - These spawn by Zere, also can steal from Mudrakers by Porth Laffan.
12 Evencloth - Steal from Ragged Reapers outside Zere.
12 Flurry Feather - Steal them from Weakon Beakon in The Bad Cave.
8 Fresh Water - Steal from Cheeky Tiki in Gerzuun.
4 Ice Crystal - Steal from Brrrearthenwarriors outside of Swinedimples.
4 Magic Water - Purchase at Bloomingdale.
2 Manky Mud - These also Spawn decently.
2 Moonwort Bulb - Purchase at Bloomingdale.
4 Narspicious - steal from Sculpture Vulture in Bowhole.
12 Nectar - Steal from Pink Sanguini - hardest steal, but they also spawn nicely.
4 Royal Soil - Steal from Mad Maoi on Lonely Plains.
4 Strong Medicine - Purchase at Batsureg.
2 Superior Medicine - Purchase at Bloomingdale.
4 Thunderball - Steal from Cumulus Hex outside of Upover.
2 Wakerobin - Purchase at Bloomingdale.

It only take 12 astral feathers for one agate.

Making a single piece of top-level equipment requires four agates. Outfitting your whole party with, say, Soul Suckers requires 16 Agates, which is 192 feathers; the numbers add up quickly for something that's a rare drop to begin with.

Anyway, maybe I'll pick it up again someday, but right now I'm not really interested.

I draw the line of "how much effort am I willing to put into repetitive tasks for a game?" far short of the effort required to half-inch 192 flurry feathers from Weakon Beakons. I really enjoyed DQ9, but I've got a lot of other, equally fun games to play in my free time... Having completed the main quest, I'm just not willing to put (another) 100+ hours into running grottos and half-inching feathers for the sake of "completeness".

I bought a second DS and a second copy of DQ9 (they're real cheap when they're used) so I could transfer items from one player to another using multiplayer mode, and then resetting so my other player would technically still have the items. Yeah, it's cheating, but it works.

That is a way to do it, too.
You can only transfer common items...but all the individual alchemy items, except chronocrystals are just that...common items.

And as far as a hundred hours...LOL??
Try this:
I completed main game at around 240 hours - and that's because I was dragging my feet.
I'm now over 1300 hours.
I have put over ONE THOUSAND HOURS into doing this sort of thing, and I am not done yet!!

Besides, I am trying to get all characters up to ten revocations!
This takes a lot of time, EVEN WITH THE MASAYUKI MAP...which I have.

You can't transfer Chronocrystals via multiplayer, but you can transfer all the food items. Christmas Cake, Birthday Cake, Festive Feast, Posh Biscuits, and Choice Chocolate are worth the most money of all the no-star items. So if you use the reset trick to give your second DS 99 of each of those items, you can rack up quite a bit of money much faster than using the Gold Mail Alchemy trick. Then, you can use all the money you got from cake-trafficking (ehehe) to buy as many Chronocrystals as you wish.

As for completion, I finished the main game at around 100 hours (most of those were spent farming skill points at the Bowhole), and I'm about 1000 hours into the game. I have around 380 accolades, I've defeated every monster and finished my item list, and my wardrobe and Alchenomicon are at 98% and 95% respectively. Only things I'm missing are a few of the five-star equipments, but I got sorta burned out of using the Hoimi Table over and over and over again to get all the necessary Orbs and force Alchemiracles. Like Strider said, I got other games to play.

One thing they should have done was have an accolade for getting 400 accolades. Why they stopped at 300 is beyond me, since you can get over 250 simply from mastering skills.

1300 hours is nearly two solid months, or almost half a year playing eight hours a day- most of which is spent sitting around in the Bowhole or the Masayuki map or half-inching hundreds of Alchemy items.

As far as I'm concerned, at that point you've ceased describing a game and begun describing second job.

Well, for me it is a labor of love. There is nothing made that is DW/DQ that I do not ADORE and LOVE.

Even DW2...which is my least favorite due to the extreme difficulty...I even like that one...just that is is my least favorite.

I think I'd rather play an online game... I mean, that's essentially what you do on an online game after all. And atleast there you can more publically show off your years worth of clicking put into the game.

I could easily show off mine. First of all, there is my Spreadsheet which is publicly viewable. secondly, I can always upload my savestate for anyone to see...and use.

Online, shmonline...for me, if it has DW/DQ in its title it is a great game.
