Well, I have finally gotten into playing the DS remake of DQ6.
Very true to the original NoPrgress translation game that played on a SNES. Except, of course, monster recruitment, which is completely different in this versus the NoPrgress version. I think I like the way it's done here better. The other version, you got a lot of useless pains in the butt.
I am 46 hours gametime now...just grinding up vocations before going after Mortamor. Have been at thisa point for the last 20 hours of gametime.
I have got to say, I REALLY like the Kafrizzle spell in this game. It's looks like the caster conjures up this ginormous fireball and then yells, "Here, catch!!" at his target! LOL!!
DQ6 always DID require a lot of grinding with the vocations. A nice idea...but they should have made that part a little less grind-y.

I like the DS remakes of DQ5 and DQ6 much more than their Super Famicom original versions. I agree with you on how it was a good idea for the DQ6 remake to get rid of most of the recruitable monsters. Did you know there are places where you can earn job class experience regardless of your level? The earliest place to grind jobs is the Spiegelspire, where I spent a lot of time leveling up everyone's jobs, making the rest of the game a breeze. Thin Air is one of the best skills!

Did not know the Spiegelspire was such a place. This is good to know. Anywhere inside there is job level experience? I have been hanging around Well Bottom in the Dark world and even there not every single battle is job-advancing.
Where else are there job-advancing places? I'm curious.
Also...in tower, which Spiegelspire is...your wagon doesn't go. So your folks in the wagon get no job advance in there? Or do they?

According to GameFAQs, here are all the areas with level caps of 99.
Castle Swanstone (Real World) The Spiegelspire (Dream World) Underwater Realm (Real World) Sunken Ship (Real World) Undersea Palace (Real World) Gracos' Lair (Real World) Castle Graceskull (Both Worlds) Cryptic Catacombs (Real World) Mt. Snowhere (Real World) Everfrost Grotto (Real World) Turnscote (Real World)
It's been so long, I forgot which of these places have wagon access. But I would imagine the earlier places on the list would be easier to grind in, because the battles wouldn't be as difficult and lengthy.

Right outside of Turnscote, eh?
I wondered what "Level Caps" meant on Woodus' site.
I have always liked to level/vocation grind right outside Well Bottom in the Dark World.
You are right next to the old man who heals you full up for free, and a Priest who can save your game. What could be better?
And all you have to do is ZOOM to the Prison Of Sorrow and go thru the hole to get back to the Real World, then ZOOM to Alltrades Abbey, go thru the well, change vocation, use the Celestial Reins, and then ZOOM back to the Gallows Moor and walk back to the Well Bottom.
It's boring as hell, but I can't think of a better place to do level/vocation grinding, really.
The other places with 99 Level Caps can be nice, but the battles carry less EXP, so you don't level up as fast, even if you do get vocation points.

Were level caps even that big of a deal in the SNES version?
I'll grant I never finished it, but my impression from playing the game was that they were mostly a matter of preventing you from changing classes and then whacking slimes outside of the first town for job levels. Of course, I imagine that if you folks are maxing out everything as soon as possible, you probably would be concerned with that...

Maxing out is the whole point.
I'm very close to doing this with the Hero.
