If any of you are interested, I recently downloaded a few hacks of FF1 Advance which mess around with the difficulty, class system, and lists of items and abilities.

This is Jeff Ludwig's "Mod of Balance". Different download files contain different patch versions, each with their own variations on FF1's classic, genre-defining rules. Version 3.0 eliminates class changing altogether, and allows the player to start with a selection of twelve unique classes. Version 3.3 refines the twelve classes even further, and also changes their color palettes to make them look more original. I recommend making four extra copies of your FF1 Advance (North America) ROM and applying the 3.0 patch to one copy, the 3.3 patch to another copy, and the 2.2 patch to the remaining two copies. Why do you need two copies of the Version 2.2 hack? Well...

This "Hard Mode" patch from The Ice Penguin needs to be applied to FF1 Mod of Balance, Version 2.2. A patch on top of another patch? I know, it's unusual, but it works. Totally changes the dynamic of the game with harder enemies and better equipment available in the stores. Enemies can now use more abilities and are more likely to cause status ailments with their attacks, a change you'll start to feel almost immediately when Garland puts you to sleep with his blade (literally "knocking you down" as he promised).
These hacks change FF2's gameplay as well, but that's not why I downloaded them.
If you need help applying any of the patches, let me know so I can help.
