I dig [...] the groovy Black Antion/Spiteful Crow battle music. I read somewhere that that piece was inspired by "Tequila" by the Champs. There are some definite similarities.

Thankfully, the next few stages should be a little easier, since you'll get your second party member soon. Did you find the Hard Hat in Peaceful Rest Valley?

Yeah; that helped quite a bit... The Li'l UFOs still pack a punch, though, and the Territorial Oaks do 20-30 damage when they die no matter how fast I try to skip through the text. I shouldn't have picked up the Slingshot, though; I didn't realize it had a lower hit rate than my bat when I did so and spent a lot of time whiffing in combat. - HC

Yeah, I should've warned you about that. My bad. Avoid slingshots and yo-yos. There's a better bat for sale in Happy Happy Village, I believe...

Yeah, picked that up. Just beat up Pokey's buddies and got the Franklin Badge; headed in to Carpainter's place right now.
- HC
ETA: beat Carpainter and went through to the second Your Sanctuary with Paula in tow- the Mondo Mole was hard, but a little leveling and luck and I took care of him right quick.
Got the Backstage Pass and the Wad of Bills back in Twoson; next on the docket- I assume- is paying off the Runaway Five's debt and taking their bus to Threed.

Yeah, and make sure you have everyone's best equipment. For Paula, that includes a second Copper Bracelet and a Ribbon.
Congrats on beating the Mondo Mole! This means the Lilliput Steps cave will be a great spot for grinding from now on, since the monsters run away from you.

Way ahead of you there. Probably would not have been able to be at the Mondo Mole without it. Is there any point to keeping the Pencil Eraser and Franklin Badge around, or should I just stash them? - HC

There are two more pencil statues in the game: one in a cave full of monkeys when your party goes through an awkward phase, and one in a far-off place called Winters. Stash it (use Escargo Express) for now, but I'll try to let you know when to withdraw it from storage.
If you've never used Escargo Express before, you have to call them and pay the man $18 to store, or withdraw, three of your items. You'll probably be using this service a lot, to store your insignificant or no-longer-useful items. I'll be on hand to tell you which ones you can get rid of in this manner.
As for the Franklin Badge, it's a useful protective/key item that reflects lightning magic aimed at the one who carries it. I'd keep it in Paula's inventory if I were you.

So Brickroad wants to become the first "combination human and dungeon in history"? .... Let's not tell him about Ki's Body in Final Fantasy Legend 2. - HC ETA: What do i have to do to fix a posessed party member? Is there something at the item shop for it? Will Psi Healing work?

The only way to cure the Possession status is to go to a hospital and speak to the healer. Select "Purify" from the list. You will need to pay a fee, but I'm not sure how much. In the next town after Threed, there's an NPC who can cure all your party's status ailments instantly for free. But I'm not sure how far you are from there. Fun fact: Threed was called Threek in the Japanese version. However, this was changed because Nintendo of America figured English-speaking players may interpret "three K" as "KKK". Good call with Ki's Body. I never would have thought of it that way.

Ki's Body was the single most irritating and tedious part of that game- I played through the game dozens of times as a kid, and I always dreaded hitting it. BTW: do I need the Ruler and Protractor for anything? What controls whether Jeff repairs something overnight? - HC

The Ruler and Protractor are useless. Sell them ASAP. This webpage explains everything about broken items. (Note that the Tea Tent does not count as "spending the night", but the Stew Tent does.) You can get some nice weapon upgrades for Jeff through this unique process. However, many of the repaired items (such as Defense Spray) aren't very useful and should just be sold.

It's been a while, but I've made it to Saturn Valley and upgraded all my stuff... Making it through Threed was kind of difficult, actually, but eventually I stumbled upon the Bogey Tent and the Zombie Paper.
Next up, Belch Base! Probably some leveling first, though.
