This may be of interest to some posters here. So a few weeks ago, a friend-of-a-friend pointed me at the massive fanfiction archive Archive of our Own (not entirely SFW). Poking around a bit in their archives, I noticed that they had what appears to be a complete set of the Qu Marsh/Cosmo Canyon/Fritz Fraundorf humor fanfics, including the most recent in the loose series, which was apparently released in June 2013 (!!!). Kind of an interesting trip down memory lane. I think I stopped paying attention to these in '98 or '99- I definitely remember reading GA2, which was apparently released in '99- but I only vaguely remember anything after that. I do remember that his Family Guy-style 'reference humor' wore thin pretty quickly with exposure; a brief look at some of his newer works indicates that his writing improved after I stopped reading. Still, looking back at the titles brings me back... Nostalgic flashbacks to summers when I was much younger: playing Wild ARMs on my brand-new PS1; sitting on the Esplanade and reading the manual for the then-newly-translated Tactics Ogre; waking up early to play Breath of Fire 3 a few hours before walking the four miles to the Commuter Rail into Boston and Driver's Ed; reading GA2 chapters on slow afternoons manning the phones at my first job. - HC

So I decided to throw myself on the fanfiction grenade here and read through Fritz' latest, Bend It like Beclem. It's relatively short (I made my way through it in my down time today), but it's pretty decent... Apparently he wrote a loose series that centers around the (mis)adventures of a collection of the PSX-era Final Fantasy folks, all of whom are now students at Balamb Garden. It's not bad! I admit I snickered a few times.
Judging from the pop-culture references that there are (which are mostly 'in-the-background'-type stuff here), I suspect that this was actually written (or begun) a few years ago and only edited/finished/actually released this year- most of the references and such seem to date back to '07 or '08.
