This came up because I was watching a game show on GSN, taped back in the era when this song was made...and it mentioned that the cars manufactured in Japan had the lowest safety rating of cars from any nation. Now, today, Japanese cars are among the highest-rated for safety, hence my point about how the times have changed - in just thirty years.
I still think the song is funny as hell, though.

The 80's. As best I can determine, it would appear to have originally been released in 1983...which is about the time I seem to remember the song from. I remember I was still living in Chicago when it came out, and heard it on the Dr. Demento Show. And I left Chicago in 1985, so there you have it.
