Dragon Quest VII 3DS

So a port of Dragon Quest 7 to the 3DS has been announced! Kotaku a trailer here.

Looks like they've introduced a lot of cool stuff- I like the 'wolf-riding' design for Gabo, and I think the addition of FF-style costume changes with new jobs and the Phantasy Star-ish battle system are both good changes. I kinda hope they've rearranged things such that you reach the Shrine of Dhama (Alltrades Abbey?) earlier in the game... That you didn't have access to it for like 20 hours into the game was one of the reasons that I was lukewarm on the original.

On the down side, I guess there's no word on a US release... Hopefully this one pans out.

Can one PLAY 3DS games on a DSi...just without the 3D effect?

Hopefully, the will fix the game-killer bug in it too.

DQ7 had a major game-killing bug that never got discovered before it was released. One of the Shards you need is a "gone-forever" if you flood the lake at Deja before you get the Shard.

No. The 3DS is different, new hardware; it's not just another DS model with some 3D stuff added.

The game appears to have been pretty thoroughly remade; I assume that they've fixed the game-breaking bug as part of that process.

Well, I am NOT about to buy a 3DS...just for one game.
So they would seem to have lost me on this deal.

Nor I, especially not for the remake of a mediocre game. Still, it's cool to see, and if you were thinking of picking up a 3DS anyway...

I was a 3DS naysayer when it come out, but it seems to be assembling a good selection of games- I guess the next numbered SMT game is aimed at the 3DS as well.

I thought that a DSi WOULD play 3DS carts...but without the 3D aspect.
Maybe not.

DW7 was good, IMO, but I'm not about to go out and buy a 3DS just for that one game...and, since I'm an old-schooler, I have little interest in the 3DS.
