I had a computer virus that totally wiped my computer. And I was desperately looking for the right address to find this Board again...there's only almost 3000 Boards dedicated to games on ProBoards!

Sorry to hear about your computer. Did you lose anything personal and irreplaceable? If you're looking to restock your MP3 collection, I can at least provide a little assistance.
Last year, I almost succumbed to a horrible virus that made it impossible to start Windows 7 without getting an error message and shutting down less than a minute later. Since then, I re-installed Windows 7 and backed up everything on my HD to an external HD. I highly recommend everyone gets an external HD for that very purpose.

Ouch- that sucks. You should've just EMailed one of us. - HC But the problem with that was...I lost all your email addresses, too! LOL. Lost everything. got hit with the "Crypto-Lock" Virus, it scrambled every one of my data files. so all the files where I had people's email addresses saved (because I do not use "Address Books" in email programs for this very reason (viruses seek out your Address Book in order to infect your friends) - I save emails in a separate data file - but that file got wiped. Had I not shut down quick enough, it would have also scrambled all my picture and MP3 files. Fortunately, it did not manage to get that far - nor did it manage to infect any of the other five computers in my home network. I nailed it quick, but I lost data files. I was able to remove the hard drive and extract all the picture files - I could not find my Firefox Bookmarks. I then had to re-install Windows 7 Ultimate - and, as you all know, that will wipe your computer clean. So I spend the last few weeks, in my spare time, scrolling thru all the Boards on ProBoards until I found us again.

Actually, I have most of my really important stuff backed up on Flashsticks. These flashsticks never come into contact with the Internet. I take the computer offline before I insert the stick to back up...and then remove the stick from the USB before re-connecting to the Net. I really SHOULD also get myself a Terabyte external hard drive - they are reasonably-enough priced anymore. I also have an external DVD/CD-ROM read/writer I tend to believe very much in external peripherals, rather than built-in. I guess this harks back to the days when ALL peripherals were external. But the fact is...external peripherals are much easier to get and and replace if needed, lol. That said, I am able to fully take apart a computer and put it back together. This was my first major foray with a laptop, but I managed it fairly well.
